ARTIST STATEMENT

My work explores the layered experiences of Latina womanhood, tracing how memory, migration, and the female body intersect as sites of transformation.

Through a fusion of watercolor, oil, and acrylic techniques layered with textile motifs, collage, and digital transparencies, I construct images that blur the boundaries between body and landscape, spirit and material. Threads, fabric, and gesture become metaphors for inheritance and repair — the ways in which cultural memory is passed, unraveled, and rewoven across generations.

Each composition becomes a form of embodied storytelling — a reclamation of space and voice. Through color, light, and layered materials, I seek to transform displacement into a kind of belonging, and vulnerability into power.

Sisterhood on a Brooklyn Fire Escape (2005)
Two women, wrapped in color and memory, share late-night cafecito on a Brooklyn fire escape. The glow of candles, the hum of Sunset Park, the softness of sisterhood — this piece celebrates the quiet moments where women hold each other up, breathe, and reclaim joy.

Bold patterns, warm light, and deep urban blues collide to create a scene that feels like home, like culture, like resistance through tenderness.

Bestiaries of Belonging (2025) is a series that explores the bond between humans and the creatures that shaped our myths, cultures, and dreams.
Each piece re-imagines predators as guides — spiritual, ancestral, and deeply Caribbean — reminding us that the line between us and them is thinner than we think.

The Rooster Oracle (2025) is an homage to the rooster as a mythic herald straddling day and night, tradition and transformation. Against the skyline of New York City, the creature’s iridescent feathers shimmer with Caribbean heat—emerald, copper, and indigo—while its gaze fixes toward a rising moon. In Caribbean and Latin American folklore, the rooster is both guardian and messenger, crowing at thresholds between worlds. Here, it becomes an emblem of diasporic rhythm and survival: an ancestral clock reminding urban life of its rural pulse. The hybrid body—part bird, part scaled creature—symbolizes the layered identities of migration, faith, and cultural inheritance.

    Kind Fox

Kind Fox (2025) presents the fox as a long symbol of cunning and adaptability—as an enlightened creature of empathy. Bathed in luminous gradients of coral and teal, the animal seems to glow from within, merging tropical light with a sense of inner stillness. In Caribbean folklore, fox-like figures often represent clever survival and quiet rebellion, traits mirrored here in the animal’s poised, almost meditative stance. The word “Kind” becomes a double meaning: both gentle and kin. In caribbean culture, the fox is rendered not as trickster or predator, but as kin—a being capable of feeling, reflecting, and coexisting. In its luminous silence, Kind Fox becomes an allegory for evolution through compassion, asking whether intelligence without empathy can ever be truly human.

Afro-Carbbean Art is Trending

Contemporary Afro-latin and Afro Caribbean styles are now in demand more than ever. People really enjoy having their portrait come to life in vibrant, dynamic, and flavorful ways! The style of portraiture I have found that is most fascinating and of organic interest is Caribbean, surreal-themed digital art. It's focused on composition and shapes but mostly emphasizing the vibrant colors and nature motifs in the culture of the Caribbean archipelago to create a dynamic and culturally rich visual experience.

A  dear friend served as model; she is surrounded by an aura of serenity, yet very wild beauty. Our connection is transcending the mere physical realm. The colors here are forming a kaleidoscope of hues that symbolize our spiritual bond. In the midst of this ethereal garden, specific flowers hold significant symbolism. Velvety petals symbolize passion and love, intermingled with lilies representing purity and devotion. Each flower, chosen and intricately placed, contributes to the narrative of this divine connection.
